Location to Watch: Abandoned Six Flags Amusement Park New Orleans

Just 2 years after its grand opening in 2003, this theme park was forced to close its doors post devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina.

After assessing the exorbitant expenses of repairing the damage, Six Flags sought to terminate its 75-year lease with the city. Now owned by the Industrial Development Board (IDB) of New Orleans and despite various announced plans to redevelop the site, as of September 2016, it is still an abandoned amusement park in extremely poor condition.  However, a dilapidated amusement park, creative vision and clever set dressing makes for endless possibilities when a script calls for such a thing.

In 2013, IDB agreed to let 20th Century Fox film the movie Damn of the Planet of the Apes, portions of the movie Jurassic World and most recently Deep Water Horizons. Three big budget features that Reel Security of Louisiana was very proud to be a part of!
