Known for his work on the well-known films Kill Bill: Vol 1 & 2, The Hunger Games, and recently the Leonardo DiCaprio Oscar winning film The Revenant. Doug’s career began back in the mid-90s. Fresh out of film school he started as a Location Assistant on the Stephen J. Cannell show, Renegade, with Lorenzo Lamas. Shortly thereafter he landed a L.A. gig for the high profile feature From Dusk Till Dawn. The film directed by Robert Rodriguez from a screenplay by Quentin Tarantino put Dresser on the path to a successful career. Doug currently travels world Location Managing feature films of all sizes.
But the question on everybody’s mind of course revolves around… security guards. Don’t worry, we’ll pin him down on that one, after lobbing him a few softballs…
Reel Security (RS): How many film productions have you worked on?
Douglas Dresser (DD): I have worked on over 50 Movies and TV Shows and countless commercials.
RS: What’s your favorite movie you’ve worked on?
DD: Still have to say, “Kill Bill”. I was on that movie for a year and half. We had a great time.
RS: What attracts you to any given location?
DD: I love going to a place I’ve never been and finding the hidden gems and subtly of the place. Sometimes the right angle hides from you and surprises you when you find it. “
RS: What’s your longest tech scout?
DD: On “After Earth” we tech scouted Philadelphia, Moab, UT, Costa Rica, and Humboldt County over the coarse of 7 or 8 days. It involved planes, buses, and boats. We even Director scouted on horseback.
RS: What’s your favorite on-set story?
DD: Too many to mention.
RS: What’s your favorite crafty snack?
DD: Mixed nuts.
RS: What’s something you look for in your favorite security guards?
DD: Friendly, professional demeanor, anticipates, knows what’s happening next. I always tell the Guards and Gaffers “Be proactive, not reactive”.
RS: If you could give advice to someone entering the industry, what would it be?
DD: Work hard, don’t be late, be nice to people. Know where you want to go and do something about it.
